Safe Travels Advantage Insurance provides sickness/injury coverage to non-US citizens who reside outside the USA and are traveling outside of their home country to visit solely the United States, or to visit a combination of the United States and other countries worldwide. The insured must arrive in the USA before traveling to other countries. The plan is not available to expat USA citizens or green card holders in the USA. This plan is not available to anyone age 90 years or above. Coverage in countries outside the USA and travelers Home Country is available for up to 180 days during your Policy Period.

Safe Travels Advantage plan is a Limited benefit excess temporary accident and sickness Medical/Evacuation/Repatriation plan for foreign residents coming to the USA. This plan is not available to US Citizens or any individual who has been residing within the United States for more than 365 days. Extendable up to 364 days. Pre-Existing Conditions For ages up to and including 69 the limit is up to the Medical Policy Maximum purchased per Period of Coverage except for any coverage related to cardiac disease or conditions, which will be limited to $25,000 up to and including age 69 and $15,000 for ages 70 and above. Upon attaining ages 70-79 Acute Onset benefits will be reduced to a Maximum of $35,000, upon attaining age 80 Acute Onset benefits will be reduced to a Maximum of $15,000 with a $25,000 Maximum Lifetime Limit for Emergency Medical Evacuation. Provides coverage for an Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition. Sudden and Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition Coverage expires upon medical advice that the condition and Onset is no longer acute, or you are discharged from a medical facility.
Well Doctor Visit Pays up to $125 – One Visit per person per Policy Period. The Well Doctor Visit must occur within the first 21 days from the effective date of coverage. To be eligible you must purchase at least 30 days of coverage initially.
Secondary Insurance Safe Travels Advantage is NOT a Primary Insurance plan
A Secondary insurance plan just fill gaps found in coverage benefits in the Primary plan. In comparison, a Primary Insurance plans pays immediately for an unexpected injury/illness that is not an exclusion, without any verification made, whereas in a secondary plan, this check is done.

Safe Travels Advantage Cancellation & Refund Rules

Below are the rules pertaining to cancellation of the policy and refund of premium provisions.

  • Prior to Effective Date: If written email request is received by the plan administrator prior to the effective date of coverage, the paid premium is refunded fully.
  • Active Policy: After that effective date of coverage, a partial cancellation and refund may be allowed and the following conditions apply:
    • If any claims have been filed, the premium is fully earned and is non-refundable. If no claims have been filed with the Company, then (i) a cancellation fee of US $50 will be charged; and (ii) only unused days premiums will be considered as refundable; and
    • If after a refund is made, it is determined that a claim was presented on a Covered Person’s behalf, the Covered Person will be fully responsible for that claim in its entirety. Upon effectuation of such cancellation and refund, neither the Company nor the Covered Person shall have any further rights, liabilities, or obligations under this insurance.

The Safe Travels Advantage plan is available for foreign national who are visiting the United States for a short-term duration of up to 1 year. What are the common terms used in the Safe Travels Advantage plan?

Medical Maximum, Deductible, Coinsurance are commonly referenced

Medical Maximum is the maximum amount covered under the policy, the plan will pay up to that amount should you need to use the plan by see medical care with the doctor, urgent care, or hospital, etc. Deductible is the amount of medical expenses which the insured person has to meet and cross (accumulated amount) before the plan pays.
